Renovation project for a young couple in a residential neighborhood of Bolzano. The unit is located in a semi-detached house with private garden dating back to the 1930s.
The design for the first floor involves the creation of a large open space on the south side, achieved by removing some internal partitions and unused circulation areas, while keeping the kitchen, bathroom and a single bedroom on the north-facing side.
An L-shaped larch wood staircase, designed in continuity with the home’s original flooring material, connects this level to the previously unused attic, which is converted into a habitable space to accommodate the sleeping area. The staircase is conceived as a piece of furniture, incorporating shelves and storage compartments within it, and becomes the focal point of the apartment in its brightest corner.
